The New Jersey Historical Commission wishes to remind history organizations impacted by Hurricane Sandy of the variety of federal, state, and local resources available to them in their time of need. The New Jersey State of Archives along with the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (Records Management) has posted information on public records disaster response. A list of statewide disaster recovery vendors can be found on the New Jersey State Archives website.

In addition, the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers has compiled a detailed list of disaster relief resources that could be helpful to the state’s arts, history and cultural community.

Learn How You Can Help Us Celebrate New Jersey’s 350th Birthday!

The New Jersey Historical Commission is now seeking suggestions to help celebrate the 350th anniversary of the state’s founding in 2014.

Throughout the year, a 52-week “This Week in New Jersey” online and public television series will showcase the people, stories, achievements and progress that have defined an eventful 350 years.

With such an embarrassment of riches, the Commission is recruiting the public to help ensure the success of this important “NJ 350″ legacy initiative.

What are some well known or, better yet, lesser known historic events we should consider? What individual contribution shouldn’t be overlooked? Or perhaps a discovery we need to highlight?

FY 2013 Project Grant & Minigrant Guidelines

Forms for the Declaration of Intent to apply for a Minigrant are now available in the State of New Jersey System for Administering Grants Electronically SAGE.

The Declaration of Intent to apply is due on December 10, 2012. Applications for a Minigrant in this second round for FY 2013 will be due on January 10, 2013.

Shigechiyo Izumi is world’s oldest living person according to the Guinness book of World Records.
